Error message - Module 701 error - means there is a problem with the Wireless card. Correct speak? Wireless Module We need to diagnose, Christine I would like to first suggest, to remove the Wireless Module, and see if the laptop works again. There will probably be another error message, that there is a problem with wireless. However one step at a time.. Wireless Module removed, and laptop works, of course we now know the problem is just the Wireless Module, and not further into the computer. 1) Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter, (Charger) FIRST, unplug the AC adapter from the surge protector, then unplug the AC adapter from the laptop. (This method avoids a possible voltage spike) Next remove the Battery. Now press the Power On button, and hold down for a count of 10 seconds. (Relieves all residual power) 2) Suggest lay a soft static free cloth on a table, and the laptop laid upside down on it. Bottom side up, and Battery Compartment AWAY from you. 3) Remove the Wireless Compartment Cover, This is the Base Enclosure, or also can be stated as the Bottom Cover; for sale. Using it for reference. The Main view automatically shows as the Inside view. Below the Main view there are two smaller views. Click on the view to the Right. I have on my system HP the wireless module indicated in the subject. It is detected by Windows 10 (upgraded from 8.1) as: Realtek 8188EE 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi adapter. Then put your mouse cursor on the main view. Here in the Bottom view of the Bottom Cover, you can see the Battery Compartment at the Top. (And naturally, battery removed) Immediately below it is a small rectangular open area, to the Battery Compartment's left side. This is the Wireless Module Compartment. One Philips head screw to remove. (No.1 Philips screwdriver, or equivalent Jewelers screwdriver) Lift the cover up on the screw side. This is what the Wireless Module looks like by itself, Looking at the Left side of the Wireless Module, note there are two small rounded terminals. These are marked by the numbers 1 and 2. When you remove the Wireless Module Compartment Cover, note that there are two wires attached to the module. If memory serves one wire is Black, the other one White. Make a note, and/or small drawing as to which of these wires go to the No.1 round terminal, and the No.2 round terminal. They must be attached correctly later. The rounded terminals on the Wireless Module, marked as No.1 and No.2; are essentially little cylindrical posts, and have a round flat top on them. The Wireless Antenna wires connecting clips, are a flat spade terminal type of affair, with curved over edges; and have a flat spring underneath attached. To remove the clips, gently push down on the clip, then slide back. (Back towards the wire in the clip) The wires are Wireless Antenna wires. They thread up through a cavity hole in the body of the laptop, and go up by the Right Hinge, then up into the Display Assembly. The Display Assembly has a Wireless Antenna that they connect to. There is NO power coming from the Wireless Antenna wires. The power TO them, comes from the Wireless Module. The Wireless Module receives power from the slot on the laptop, that it is plugged into. I do not believe that if the Wireless Antenna wires were left to just dangle, that either one of them could contact, the contact pins in the interface slot of the laptop. Then again, I do NOT want to take any chances with your laptop. Suggest wrap a small piece of black plastic electrical tape, on each terminal for the Wireless Antenna wires. (About as long as your thumbnail will do. Just wrap it over the wire's terminal, like a folded sheet of paper) There is one Philips head screw, in the corner of the Wireless Module to remove. Then the Wireless Module is slid back, and removed. (DO NOT lift straight up at first! Slide back, until the gold plated contact pins of the Wireless Module, are free from the interface on the laptop that it plugs into.
